Data Loss Prevention (DLP) refers to a comprehensive approach which covers people, processes, and technology to identify, monitor, and protect data in use, data in motion, and data at rest through deep content inspection and with a centralized management framework. DLP controls are based on policy, and include classifying sensitive data, discovering that data across an enterprise, enforcing controls, and reporting and auditing to ensure policy compliance.
